About Me - My Photography Style

I see beauty as a reflection of God. He created men and women to reflect attributes of who he is.

I am Vanesa White, a Contemporary "Fashion Inspired" Documentary Wedding Photographer who works primarily in London, Essex, Suffolk and Norwich though based in the South East of England in Chartridge Village close to the town of Chesham, Buckinghamshire.

I have been a bride, a bridesmaid and a matron of honour. These roles are just some of my best memories (having my darling little girl Mia ranks up there). I was blessed to have wonderful photographers at my own wedding.

For a bride, it can be difficult nativigating a very saturated market trying to make a decision of which documentary wedding photographer to go with. Editorial fashion wedding online blogs will list photographers regionally and word of mouth recommendations are great places to start in your search. The decision to find the right photographer lies with your budget and the style of photography you gravitate to.

Request to see a complete wedding gallery that has been shot from begining to end in different situations. In our industry, its important to display curated images of our best work online to entice you to learn more about our services. Therefore it is for this reason that in your search you find a photographer who can shoot not a lovely bouquet and a portrait of the couple but can document the ceremony, reception, formals and other things in-between.

My photography is editorial and fashion inspired. My aim is to make my bride project her best on her big day by providing guidance and direction. Having a good experience with me during the engagement session shoot goes a long way on the wedding day. Brides can ignore me during the bridal preparation and so the time of adjusting is a short one as the shots get done quickly. For the portrait sessions, to avoid being traditional, inspiration is taken from editorial magazines to create dynamic images. For this reason my photography style will attract a specific type of bride. An agreed time out during the day is used to take shots of you both alone away from guests.

My approach when shooting on a wedding day is far from the “stand here & do this” approach of a traditional wedding photographer. My aim is to provide fashion inspired bridal portraits and to be unobstrusive, much like a “butterfly on the wall” documenting your wedding day. Indeed there are times when things need slight adjustment such as removing an element that is distracting for the image to look great. My contemporary wedding photography style ensure that wedding details and the spontanteous acts by relatives and quests are captured. For the most part, I let the wedding story unfold to capture those "blink-or-you-will-miss-them" moments that are important re-tell the story. I know that capturing these wedding details and moments are very important as they can be easily missed by the bride when she is engrossed with her handsome groom and an excited wedding party.

The formal images of the wedding ceremony, signing the registry and first dance are complemented by less formal, spontaneous moments. This mix is great for photobook layouts, traditional prints and social media. When I shoot I shoot not just for the couple. In the back of mind I am shooting for the parents, the grandparents and dear friends. Over the years, I have learnt that classic timeless portraits are desired by grandparents and Mom and Dad for their mantel for proud display :-) My shot list will cover the bridal preparation, bridal portrait, the ceremonial vows and wedding details which may have been personalised. I shoot the candids moments as I mingle with the guests before the ceremony begins and during the reception.

I am often asked what equipment do I use to achieve my fashion inspired photographs taken during a wedding or engagement session. As a contemporary "fashion inspired" documentary photographer, it is the moment as it happens and my connection with the persons in front of me. The equipment is just a tool to get me results. However in case you want to know I am a Canon shooter using full frame and crop camera bodies. I use these not because they are recognisable brands but rather they help me achieve the look I desire for my clients. For lighting, I use a combination of natural light for light and airy feel when it is available on the day and strobe for after dark sessions for a dramatic feel. Posing being natural or formal depending on the environment and the moods of the individual.

My hope is that I will be creating images that a client will happily give to themselves or a love one to remember the moment in the years to come.

I was fortunate for me I had two photographers who had different styles. I got married at, The Cornwallis, Suffolk, UK (now The Oaksmere). Being a Black Jamaican orginating from the Caribbean by way of glamorous Palm Beach, Florida, I also got married on the beach in Negril, Jamaica with family and family from home and abroad joining in both celebrations. Its now 11 years being married. I still pull out my albums to relive those memories and the enjoy the emotions the images evoke when I look at them. I desire the same for a bride, the joy of looking through her album just like me and reliving the day.
Choose to use me as your documentary wedding photographer because you like my work. Should you not choose me, I wish you all the very best with your wedding plans.
